Solidarity with Representative-Elect McBride and House Staff

Whether we are Black, white, Asian, or brown, Native or newcomer, transgender, non-binary, or cisgender, we all deserve safety and respect at work. But politicians like Speaker Mike Johnson and their billionaire funders try to fuel divisions between workers. They try to exploit lack of familiarity with transgender people to distract from how Republicans’ economic plans will hurt all workers by lowering wages, making healthcare more expensive, and taking away workplace safety protections.

When we see these tactics for the intentional distractions they are, we can join together across our differences to ensure all workers, including elected officials and their staff, have the freedom to be our authentic selves and stay safe and healthy at work.

Pride At Work, AFL-CIO condemns Speaker Johnson’s bathroom policy, which is a political stunt intended to harass and discriminate against a specific co-worker on the basis of sex and gender. We stand in solidarity with Representative-Elect Sarah McBride and the current and future staff of the House of Representatives and pledge to continue fighting for the safety and respect of all workers.
