What are pronouns?

We use pronouns every day in our conversations because they help us communicate without relying solely on someone's name. Using the correct pronouns can promote unity and demonstrate support across various backgrounds. By using the right pronouns, we stand in solidarity with our fellow workers, regardless of their race, class, or gender.

Why do pronouns matter?

Pronouns are essential components of our identities, they reflect how we navigate the world and wish to be recognized by others. In the labor movement,, we understand that using the correct pronouns is not just a matter of etiquette; it embodies respect and acknowledgment of a person’s identity.

Why should I use correct pronouns?

Correct pronoun usage fosters an inclusive union and workplace where everyone feels valued and accepted, regardless of gender, race, or class, aligning closely with our core union values of equality and solidarity among all workers.

Why should I share my pronouns?

Sharing your pronouns helps create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all workers. It shows that you understand the importance of solidarity with your union siblings.

I don’t want to learn someone’s pronouns.

When you use the wrong pronouns for someone on purpose, it shows a lack of respect. Intentionally misgendering our co-workers, such as using the wrong pronouns or name for someone, can be considered harassment or creating a hostile work environment. It goes against the principles of union solidarity, which aim to protect the rights and well-being of all workers.
